God Sees Your Pain and Suffering

"So if you are suffering according to God’s will, keep on doing what is right, and trust yourself to the God who made you, for he will never fail you." I Peter 4:19 (NLT)

How bad are you hurting today with pain and suffering from your marriage problems, financial problems, health problems or children problems? It seems for the past few weeks we have heard from so many standers who are going through such deep waters at this very moment. One stander in another country who is now having to start taking her chemo weekly. She had to give her children to her husband during her time of illness. We heard from another stander that is losing her home and seeking the Lord for where she is to move. Another stander heard that her husband went away on a trip with the other woman on their anniversary. Another stander has to go for a biopsy of a tumor that came back as possible cancer. Her mother died of this same kind of cancer three years ago. Do not be afraid, God is with you!

"But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior." Isaiah 43:1- 3

"The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." Romans 8:16-18

We received another email from a woman whose husband has returned home and she is still praying for his salvation and total freedom from the bondages of sin and temptation. Will you please pray for all the marriages that are in the process of healing and rebuilding their marriages? Please continue to pray for all the returned prodigal spouses’ salvations and they will choose to sever all communication and any relationship from the other persons completely. (Ask them if they would read Bob’s book, "Finding The Way Home.") Allow God to be the builder of your house and marriage to being rebuilt.

"For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything." Hebrews 3:4

What is the meaning of the word "suffering?" It means: To endure pain, distress or death, which is taken from Nelson’s Three-In- One Bible Reference. Let me take you one step further, to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary which the word "suffering" means: 1a: to submit to or be forced to endure; b: to feel keenly: labor under; 2: undergo; experience.  I then looked up the word "undergo," which is; to submit to; endure; to go through; experience; undertake.

Well, that describes the word "suffering" very well. I know that you are enduring and bearing a lot of pain and suffering through your marriage crisis right now. Bob and I hurt for all the sufferings, the different trials and tribulations that you are going through to receive your miracle of your promised land or your marriage being restored.

"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us." Romans 5:1-7

I know as you read this scripture you will see a word that you may not agree with, "rejoice in our sufferings." I know when we are going through many different sufferings, the word "rejoice" does not come to our minds. May I remind you to read Philippians 4:4-9. I pray that you will be encouraged that your Lord is developing in you, every day,  His Christ-like characteristics. Allow the Lord every day to fill you up with His grace, His mercy, His joy, His peace and His hope for today and for your future by the power of the Holy Spirit.

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13

As we study and read the Bible, we see many different people who went through pain and suffering for different reasons. I think of what Moses went through with the Israelites going through the wilderness to get to their promised land which was promised by their Lord God. I pray that you will make time to read tonight Numbers Chapter 14 about God’s people rebelling before they were to enter into the promised land.

Are you mumbling, grumbling and complaining all the time, and not believing in God when He has spoken to you and has answered many of your prayers? What should you do? Why not praise the Lord and ask Him to direct your steps and protect you from your enemies?  There are consequences to disobedience of not standing for God’s plan and purpose for your own life and marriage restoration. Do you want to go around the mountain again? I know I did, by divorcing my husband and not listening and obeying my Lord’s soft voice. I did what I wanted to do because of my own pain and suffering. I listened to other people. I did not seek my Lord’s will and way for our marriage. Will you obey your Lord and His Word?

"Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life. The arrogant mock me without restraint, but I do not turn from your law." Psalm 119:49-50

May you seek God’s grace, which tells you to look beyond your present circumstances to the fervent hope in the Lord Jesus Christ and God’s promises. God’s grace is sufficient for you, regardless of the present circumstances that you are facing.

There are many reasons that believers suffer. I will only mention a few for you today. We suffer as a consequence of the fall of Adam and Eve, when sin entered the world, pain, sorrow, circumstances and eventually death came into all of our lives. Some Christians suffer for the consequence of their own actions; the enemy tempting you, and Satan delights to persecute believers. Our Lord may use suffering to bring spiritual growth or use suffering to a backslidden believer to have them make a change in their life or in your beloved prodigal’s life.

There are many reasons that as a Christian you may suffer for a season, but can you imagine suffering without your Lord Jesus Christ? He is right there with you guiding your every step, if only you will cry out to Him, listen for His instructions, obey Him and follow His will and way for your life of obedience.

There are many pillars of the faith, men and women in the Bible, who suffered for a season. May I remind you of Joseph who was beaten and then sold into slavery by his own brothers. Because of this, he went through many difficult circumstances, including jail. But God, had a divine plan and purpose for it all to happen in the end. May you never forget Joseph to give you hope in your hopeless circumstance at this very moment.

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28

May you praise the Lord in spite of your pain and suffering, knowing that in the end, as in Romans 8:28 says, our Lord God will turn all your circumstances around to good for those who love Him. You and I have a choice every day. Become like the Israelites and never see the promised land or be like Joseph and be blessed beyond what he could ever imagine. God sees and knows your pain and suffering. He will never leave you and will turn your marriage circumstances around to your good in His perfect timing.

"His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. "We are your slaves," they said. But Joseph said to them, "Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children." Genesis 50:18-21
