“The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.” Luke 6:45
The heart is one of the main organs in your body. If your heart stopped beating, you would die. The heart is essential to life. If you went to the Great Physician, what would He say upon examination of your heart or your spouse’s heart? Have you had your heart surgery by the Great Physician, Jesus?
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23
Today, may I suggest you examine your own heart to make certain that you have a healthy relationship with Jesus Christ. Have you cried out to the Lord, like I did after I realized my own mistakes in our marriage? Ask the Lord to forgive you and then change you into the husband/wife and father/mother you need to become. Let me share a couple scriptures that will help you and are also excellent for your beloved spouse:
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10
The heart is talked about in the Bible frequently as part of a person’s character. Let me share the meaning of a heart spiritually from the Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary:
“A heart came to stand for man’s entire mental and moral activity. In other words, the heart is like the hidden springs of the personal life… the Bible describes human depravity as in the ‘heart,’ because sin is a principle which has its seat in the center of man’s inward life, and then ‘defiles’ the whole circuit of his action. On the other hand, scripture regards the heart as the sphere of divine influence. The heart as lying deep within, contains the ‘hidden’ or real man. It represents the true character, but conceals it.”
What is your true character? Are you walking in faith and victory for the restoration of your marriage or are you doubleminded? What kind of example are you to others regarding the marriage problems that you are facing? Have you become a woman or man of faith, hoping and trusting in your Lord God to move your mountain of circumstances into the deepest sea?
I pray that you will not allow the enemy to plant seeds of doubt, unbelief, fear and unforgiveness into your heart.
As you read the Word of God daily, you can ask the Lord to reveal special scriptures that would be good to pray for your spouse or your children’s hearts and then pray God’s Word as prayers.
How would you describe your husband’s or wife’s heart? If your spouse is talking about not loving you or has divorced you, they have a hardened heart or a heart of stone.
But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. God “will give to each person according to what he has done.” To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil. . . Romans 2:5-9
You and I must realize and admit that we each will reap what we sow. There are consequences to living in sin. I pray that you will become burdened to pray for your spouse and other loved ones who are denying the Lord Jesus Christ and not living a Christ-like lifestyle.
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? “I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.” Jeremiah 17:9-10
I often think, “If everyone would just read their Bible daily, you can keep your eyes, ears and heart on your Lord Jesus Christ. You will not stray or fall into sin. Allow the Holy Spirit to be your policeman in your life, telling you when to slow down because you are speeding or where to stop and check that you are on the right road to marriage restoration and eternity.”
It doesn’t matter what caused your marriage problems. There is nothing that is too bad that your Lord will not forgive and give you another chance. But remember, the enemy will try to deceive you into thinking you cannot say “no” to sin. You can! Remember, Satan is a liar and a deceiver. Show the enemy that “greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.” 1 John 4:4
If you do not hunger and thirst for the Word of God daily, the enemy can begin speaking temptation, thoughts, ideas and bad suggestions that will have you sinning. Never doubt that the enemy is out to steal, kill and destroy you and every member of your family. The enemy knows the power of God. Satan also knows all that can be accomplished if you surrender your life to the Lord and follow Him daily to do His will and way for your marriage and for your life!
Give the devil a black eye every day for your marriage by proclaiming that your Lord is going to resurrect and heal your marriage!
“I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.” Ezekiel 11:19-20
