So if you are suffering according to God’s will, keep on doing what is right, and trust yourself to the God who made you, for he will never fail you.  1 Peter 4:19 (NLT)
We received an email from a woman whose husband has returned home and she is still praying for his salvation and total freedom from the bondages of sin. The Lord gave her the scripture above that meant so much to her. She had cried out about the pain and suffering that she was going through as she is standing for total marriage restoration. I had also received that same scripture many years ago.
We also received an email from a male stander whose spouse is planning to get married very soon to the other person. Can you imagine his pain and suffering at this moment?

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.  Romans 5:1-5
I know as you read this scripture you will see a phrase that you struggle with -“rejoice in our sufferings.” I know when we are going through difficult circumstances, the word “rejoice” does not come to mind. May I refer you to Philippians 4:4-9. I pray that you will be encouraged that your Lord is developing in you every day His Christ-like characteristics. May our Lord fill you with His joy, peace and hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
What does suffering mean? According to the Nelson’s Three-In-One Bible Reference it means – To endure pain, distress or death.
Let me take you, one step further, the Merriam- Webster Online Dictionary defines it as –To submit to or be forced to endure; b: to feel keenly: labor under; undergo; experience. The synonym is “bear”.
I then looked up the word undergo, which is: to submit to; endure; to go through; experience; undertake.
Well, that describes the word suffering very well. I know that you are enduring and bearing a lot of pain and suffering through your marriage crisis. We hurt for all the suffering, the different trials and tribulations that you are going through to receive your miracle of marriage restoration.
As we study and read the Bible, we see many different people who went through pain and suffering for different reasons. I think of what Moses went through with the Israelites, as they traveled the wilderness to get to their land which was promised by their Lord God. I pray that you will make time tonight to read Numbers Chapter 14 about God’s people rebelling before they were to enter into the Promised Land.

Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life. The arrogant mock me without restraint, but I do not turn from your law.  Psalm 119:49-50
Re-read Romans 5:1-5 again. The word sufferings refers to all kinds of trails that are coming against you or your loved ones. This can include marriage problems, financial problems, physical needs, difficult circumstances, sorrow or grief, sickness or even loneliness. You may feel that you have more than one type of trial, which you often do because of the severity of separation and divorce. Always remember that the Holy Spirit is right there with you, and if you are in a crisis, there is always a way out.

So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.  1 Corinthians 10:12-13
The Lord wants His grace to be sufficient in your times of need. Paul was given a thorn in his flesh. This is a very powerful scripture that many of us have received while we were going through our trials and tribulations.
May you seek God’s grace, which tells you to look beyond your present circumstances to the fervent hope in our Lord Jesus Christ and God’s promises. God’s grace is sufficient for each of us, regardless of the present circumstances that you are facing.
There are many reasons that, as a Christian, you may suffer for a season, but can you imagine suffering without your Lord Jesus Christ? He is right there with you guiding your every step, if only you will obey Him and follow His will and way for your life.
Praise the Lord in spite of your pain and suffering, knowing that in the end, as in Romans 8:28, our Lord God will turn all your circumstances around to good for your spouse to be saved and for your marriage to be restored. You and I have a choice every day. Become like the Israelites and never see the Promised Land, or be like Joseph and be blessed beyond what he could ever imagine.

His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. “We are your slaves,” they said. But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.”  Genesis 50:18-21
God bless,

Yes! This! Having to work so many hours to make ends meet is killing me! I can barely squeak in a thank you Lord and Amen…. Up at 4:30am and home by 9pm and in bed by 11pm……repeat. I don’t know how some of you get so much bible study done. On my day off I can get bible study done, housework, keeping up with teens, pay bills and sleep. Not the way I pictured things… is what it is. God will restore things when He is ready. Until then, that’s life….In bed and my heart is still racing. …..good night.
