Then the LORD said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have all the people give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up, every man straight in.” Joshua 6:2-5
What impossible circumstances are you facing today? Do you feel that the enemy is attacking you? Joshua had the task of taking the Israelite people to the Promised Land even though there were enemies all around them. Your Lord wants you to enter the promised land of a restored marriage. God had chosen Joshua for this special assignment. Will you accept the assignment that your Lord is asking of you; to stand in the gap and pray for the restoration of your marriage? Never give up on your marriage because God is greater.
You are in a spiritual battle against the Enemy of this world, Satan, who is destroying marriages around the world. He has been attacking your marriage, attacking your spouse by deceiving them, telling them lies and possibly deceiving you with lonliness, missing your family, and discouragement. Will you choose God’s plan?
“No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord you God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:5-10
The Lord God is with you today! He sees the heartache you are facing.
Joshua had seen God part the Jordan, but the next circumstance Joshua was looking at was the huge Jericho wall. The Jericho walls were thirty feet high and twenty feet thick, it was a fortress city. (Read Joshua Chapter 6) That was an impenetrable wall that everyone thought was invincible and protected by the gods of the Canaanites. How was Joshua supposed to destroy it?
Joshua had a huge problem, but he turned to His Lord to see what God planned to destroy the Jericho wall. Can you relate to what Joshua felt looking at the Jericho wall? Does it feel like your impossible circumstances that only seem to get worse as you pray more? Joshua knew that the battle was God’s. Do you believe that God is going to fight for your marriage? Every day give God your spouse and your marriage in your prayer closet so He can solve all your problems as He wants to defeat the enemy, His way.
What walls or circumstances are you facing today? Ask your Lord to remove the walls of (list the issues) that are attacking your marriage now and forever! (Read Ephesians 2:13-18.) Ask the Lord to show you what you are to do every day. Never forget that there is a “Commander of the army of the Lord, the Holy Spirit,” with you all the time.
Your problems are not yours, but God’s problems. Pray throughout your day, talking to the Lord, and then leave your questions at His feet. Let go and let God deal with everything. He may give you directions or instructions during your day if you will just listen and then obey Him. Will you trust the Lord that He will fight your enemies? Stand firm and see what the Lord will do for you!
Joshua found out that He was not alone in the struggles he was facing. You are not alone, either. Has the Lord given you specific instructions, such as, “Be still, and know that I am God?” He is wanting you to wait on His timing and is telling you that He is moving on the other side of the Jericho wall. God is very patient with His children. He wants your marriage healed, but He also wants salvation of your spouse and loved ones with a more significant plan and purpose for your life in the future.
Joshua had to believe, trust, listen and obey the Lord in following everything that He had told him to do. God often speaks in detail as He did to Joshua, telling him how to use his military men. The Israelites also had to be obedient to Joshua’s commands. Sometimes, your problems may be due to not following God’s commands or being disobedient to the Lord when He tells you to do something. Is the Lord waiting for you to do something that He told you to do a long time ago? Go and do it – now!
Do not worry about what your family or friends think about what you are doing. Jesus looked foolish to the world. So did Joshua when he walked around Jericho for six days. Everyone inside Jericho was laughing at them, jeering at them, and speaking insults, but not after the seventh day. God will win your battles. He will show you His faithfulness, His strength, and His boldness.
Do you need hope? Allow your Lord to collapse your walls of hopelessness, despair, depression, marriage problems or divorce with you being obedient to His will and way in your marriage forever!
The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the people, “Shout! For the LORD has given you the city! The city and all that is in it are to be devoted to the LORD. Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall be spared, because she hid the spies we sent…” When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so every man charged straight in, and they took the city. Joshua 6:16-17, 20
