Despite getting a late start, harvest this year was going well. Better than most had anticipated. It looked like things were going to finish up pretty close to schedule.
But then, as often happens in this part of the country, Mother Nature decided to give us an early layer of snow. Tractors stopped picking, trucks stopped hauling, and farmers went home for the afternoon. With the moisture, it will be several days until they can get in the fields again.
As disappointed as they are, these farmers have no intention of giving up the harvest. Why would they? There is still corn to be picked and hay to be baled. The harvest may have stopped for now, but it will go on. A full harvest is still planned.
Has this happened in your journey for a healed and restored family? Things were going well. It looked like the harvest was just about to be fulfilled. Expectations were high. Then the progress stopped.
It’s hard to see things come to a halt when it looked like the end was in sight. It’s almost enough to make you give up, isn’t it? But God’s delays are not denials. He has a plan for you and your family if you will not give up. This is the God who can see the end from the beginning. And He knows the best way to get you there.
Remember the story of the Israelites as they left Egypt for their Promised Land. God didn’t take them along the shortest path. He knew there were some things they were not yet ready to handle.
The king sent the people out of Egypt. God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country. That road is the shortest way. But God said, “They might think they will have to fight. Then they might change their minds and go back to Egypt.” So God led them through the desert toward the Red Sea. The Israelites were dressed for fighting when they left the land of Egypt. Exodus 13:17-18 (ICB)
You see, this God we serve is all-knowing and His plans are so much better than ours. If the Israelites had encountered a battle right away, they may have become discouraged and lost their faith. But God had a plan to cement that faith with one of His mightiest miracles. He had a plan to use the Egyptians for His glory.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites to turn back to Pi Hahiroth. Tell them to camp for the night between Migdol and the Red Sea. This is near Baal Zephon. The king will think, ‘The Israelites are lost, trapped by the desert.’ I will make the king stubborn again so he will chase after them. But I will defeat the king and his army. This will bring honor to me. Then the people of Egypt will know that I am the Lord.” The people of Israel did just as they were told. Exodus 14:1-4 (ICB)
When your harvest stops it is not the time to stop believing and trusting. On the contrary, it is the time to trust God even more. He knows what lies ahead and He is directing Your path and the path of your Mom or Dad, to bring about the best blessing.
Farmers around here aren’t willing to settle for an almost-done harvest. Nope, they want the whole thing. They want the best. You should want the best too. The best for your family, the best for your mom or dad, the best plan that God has. Why settle for good when you can have great?
But the people of Israel crossed the sea on dry land. There was a wall of water on their right and on their left. So that day the Lord saved the Israelites from the Egyptians. And the Israelites saw the Egyptians lying dead on the seashore. When the people of Israel saw the great power that the Lord had used against the Egyptians, they feared the Lord. And they trusted the Lord and his servant Moses. Exodus 14:29-31
